Another major Verdi debut

Following their first collaboration in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, Sir Mark Elder invited Germán Enrique Alcántara to València to make his role debut as Miller in Verdi’s Luisa Miller. The performances took place at Les Arts València in December 2025. A selection of quotes from the press can be found below:

Germán Enrique Alcántara’s Miller was one of the great successes of the cast. This outstanding Argentinian baritone, who also sings the title role in Sir Mark Elder’s celebrated recording on Opera Rara of Simon Boccanegra, possesses a lyrical voice endowed with that dramatic bite which is required of a first-rate Verdian which he amply demonstrated in the Act I cabaletta Ah! fu giusto il mio sospetto! - El País

Alcántara’s performance was powerful… His artistic rapport with Sir Mark Elder was consolidated through their recording of Simon Boccanegra in its original 1857 version. Following its release earlier this year, the critic Pablo L. Rodríguez described it as extraordinary in Scherzo, highlighting Alcántara’s finely nuanced and chromatically rich vocal dicourse. In València, his portrayal of Miller was distinguished by exceptional brilliance in the upper register, firmly establishing the character from his entrance aria, Sacra la scelta è d’un consorte, one of Verdi’s finest creations for the baritone voice. - ABC Musica

Miller, as portrayed by Germán Enrique Alcántara proved a gratifying surprise. The Argentinian baritone, endowed with clear Verdian inflections, a naturally dark timbre and expansive phrasing, shaped the paternal figure with stylistic fidelity. - La Razón

Germán Enrique Alcántara was a lyrical, brilliant Miller with a strong upper register. - Scherzo

Argentinian baritone Germán Enrique Alcántara delivered a textbook performance as Miller. His singing was remarkable for its projection, vocal fullness, and expressiveness, remaining brilliant throughout and earning enthusiastic, well-deserved applause at the curtain call. - Platea
