Toulouse debut as Enrico

In February 2026, Germán Enrique Alcántara was heard for the first time in Toulouse at the Opéra national du Capitole as Enrico in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. The critics had this to say about his performance:

Enthusiastic and well-deserved applause punctuated the performance of Argentinian baritone Germán Enrique Alcántara as Enrico… Here is a singer who does not forget that he must also be an actor on stage. His performance was magnificent from beginning to end; he handled his aria and cabaletta in the first act admirably, and he brought to the role of Enrico a darkness that suited the character perfectly. - Forum Opéra

The in-person discovery of the Argentinian Germán Enrique Alcántara gave us an Enrico of earth-shaking power. He is an authentic “Verdi” who slips into the skin of Lucia’s brother. The timbre is of a rare, beautiful quality; the voice is long and homogeneous, the character vibrating with fury... the character exists and imposes upon us his full, ominous determination. - Classic Toulouse

A sharp-edged baritone with bold high notes, powerful and very confident singing - never shouting or bawling - impetuous, but Enrico is neither an old man nor a gentle soul; moreover, he sings with rage and fury. This description applies to Germán Enrique Alcántara. - Culture 31
