Un ballo in maschera at Dresden Semperoper

Germán Enrique Alcántara launched his 2026/27 season in Dresden with his debut at the Semperoper. He sang the role of Renato in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera in a new production conducted by Daniele Gatti. The critics had this to say about his performance:

Germán Enrique Alcántara lends Renato a wonderfully warm, rich baritone voice, and his cantabile delivery created one of the most moving moments of the evening. - Pizzicato

Baritone Germán Enrique Alcántara, with his warm, full voice, was a true vocal highlight of the evening. Alcántara portrayed a likable Renato, whose anger - driven by his love for Amelia and a deep sense of betrayal by his closest friend Riccardo, for whom he had willingly risked his life - was palpable. - Das Opernmagazin

Germán Enrique Alcántara possesses a resonant baritone voice that also has an “Italian-sounding” quality. His Eri tu in the opera’s final act was an absolute highlight of the performance. In terms of drama, this aria could not have been surpassed. - Klassik begeistert

Germán Enrique Alcántara, in turn, endowed Renato with the finest baritone tones in his house debut. You truly believed this hothead when his mind, clouded by jealousy, was capable of nothing but plotting revenge.  - Opern News
